Why Do Evangelists Call for Repentance?

Repentance is a change of mind

The original Greek word according to Strong’s Concordance metanoia: change of mind, repentance

Biblically speaking, repentence is the act of changing your mind about who you think Jesus is.

A crucial aspect of the Christian faith is the recognition that for non-believers to embrace Christianity, they must transform their understanding of who Jesus Christ is. This change of perspective is essential for them to open their hearts to receive the message of the Gospel. Once they believe in the truth of Jesus Christ’s identity as the Son of God and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters them, guiding and empowering their newfound faith.

Furthermore, the urgency to share the Gospel is fueled by our love for others and our desire to see them experience the same transformative power of God’s grace that will touch their lives. We recognize that every soul is of immeasurable value to God, and therefore, every effort to reach them is worth undertaking.
In conclusion, the urgency to share the Gospel stems from a deep understanding of the fleeting nature of time and the eternal significance of our mission. It compels us to prioritize evangelism, step out in faith, and share the message of hope and redemption with a sense of urgency and conviction. As stewards of God’s mercy and ambassadors of His kingdom, we must not delay but press forward, knowing that the time is short and the harvest is ripe.
The Bible teaches that the church is the “body of Christ”. “We are to love the people of the world. We are here for this very purpose – to go into the nations and proclaim the Gospel to all who will hear.”
As the “body of Christ,” we are blessed with the knowledge of Jesus’s sacrifice for us. When we repent, which means to turn away from our previous ways of thinking and place our trust in Jesus, he intercedes on our behalf, saving us from God’s wrath. However, there are countless individuals living on this earth, in our country, and even in our towns who do not know Jesus. They may have heard his name, but they are unaware of the profound significance of their actions because they lack an understanding of who Jesus truly is.
They are unaware of the “Good News” of salvation. Heavenly Father reveals this good news to us through Jesus’s ministry, death, and resurrection.

Matthew 11:4-5 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Just as Jesus sent his disciples to proclaim the good news and demonstrate its power through miracles, we, too, are called to spread this message of hope and redemption. Our towns, our communities, and our world are filled with individuals who are spiritually blind, deaf, and dead and need the life-changing truth that Jesus offers. Therefore, it is our responsibility as believers to share the good news with them so that they, too, may come to know the transforming power of God’s love and grace.

WOW! Reading this scripture ignites an incredible desire to go out and share the Gospel—the GOOD NEWS—with the world! Are you feeling the excitement, too? Don’t hesitate to share! As Christians, the Holy Spirit dwells within us, guiding and empowering us every step of the way. Are you ablaze with passion for Jesus? The more you delve into your Bible and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life, the more fervent your faith will become! Before you know it, you’ll be eager to share Jesus’s life-changing message with everyone you encounter.

Paul’s letter to the Ephesians emphasizes that if we surrender to the Holy Spirit, He will shape and equip us to proclaim His message boldly and fearlessly. Remember, we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works that He has prepared for us in advance. So let’s step out in faith, confident that God is working through us, and walk boldly in the path He has laid for us!

Ephesians 2:10 (KJV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The Old and New Testaments together declare the Good News! From the very first pages, the entire Bible unveils the story of Christ and His predetermined role in our salvation. Even in the earliest passages, through symbolic imagery (pictographs) and prophecy, God foreshadows the sacrificial death of His Son on the cross. This profound truth underscores the divine intentions behind Jesus Christ’s redemptive work, stretching back to the very inception of creation.

Isaiah 52: 7 (KJV) How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

Isaiah 40:9 (KJV) O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

Luke 4: 16-19 (KJV) And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias (Isaiah). And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

“The Mission” Evangelism is our mission!

As we study the Bible, we see that God’s plan for the church (the body of Christ) is much greater than man’s plans.

Jesus is first in my life, and as a result, my existence in this world is bearable; I want nothing less than every day of my life to bring Him glory. I'm continuously watching and praying for Him to come again. “I desire to share the Kingdom of God with anyone who will listen (Matthew 28:19–20), because time is short and Jesus will call His people home before the coming Tribulation (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; 1 Corinthians 15:51–52; Revelation 3:10). I cherish the beauty of the world He created for us (Genesis 1:31; Psalm 19:1), and though Scripture tells us that this present earth will one day pass away and be renewed (2 Peter 3:10–13; Revelation 21:1), I want to honor His creation and care for it well until He calls us to meet Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17).” I love people, animals, birds, trees (I'm a tree hugger), flowers (roses are my favorite), the snow, the rain, the wind, and the sunshine. I realize how blessed I am to live now and be born in a country that allows freedom of speech and religion! Free to share my thoughts and illumination. I also realize that there are consequences to everything I share with you, so I'll always ask God's wisdom while writing and before I publish. ALL questions are welcome! I can't promise I'll be able to give you the answer you want, but I'll answer honestly and with scriptures from the Bible. I use many different Bible translations as my resources. The NIV, NKJV, the KJV, and the HCSB are a few.
