Life Is a Vapor…

Hold Each Moment Close…

Life is delicate, like the morning mist that drifts and fades with the first light of day.

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14 NIV)

We catch ourselves in the mirror and startle at the face we see, lines in our face and silver threads amongst the gold, quietly tracing the years we scarcely noticed passing. Inside, we still feel the gentle pulse of youth—the same tender dreams, the same quiet joys—but life has been moving all along, carrying us forward while we were living it, often unaware.

Life drifts past like a morning mist, delicate and fleeting, appearing for a little while before it vanishes. We hear the laughter of children spilling across the yard, bright and careless, echoing through the hours, and we notice the small signs of their growing—shoes left behind as they outgrow them, voices carrying new notes, gestures just a little more sure. Even the simplest moments, tying a first shoelace, gazing out a window lost in thought, hold within them the weight of time, teaching us in whispers that every season passes too swiftly.

And in the quiet, our hearts remember the Scripture: “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). How true it feels, how tender, how bittersweet, that the days are here and gone, that even the moments that seem ordinary now will one day live only in memory. Yet within this fleeting mist, there is beauty, and even a small grace, if we notice. The laughter, the growth, the first successes and the quiet, tender failures—they are all treasures, fragile and precious, passing too quickly but leaving their imprint on our hearts.

And so we breathe in the moment, gently, with soft awareness, letting the past and the present fold together, holding each fleeting second close, learning to treasure the mist while it is here, and trusting that even as it slips away, every precious piece of life has been seen, has been loved, and will not be forgotten.

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12 NIV)

The Illusion of Endless Tomorrows

It’s easy to live as if tomorrow will always be there. We move through our days chasing the wind, believing time is endless. We float like clouds drifting across the sky, believing our days flow endlessly like a river, forgetting that every current must eventually meet the sea. Sometimes, we are chasing shadows of tomorrow, thinking they are real, yet each moment passes as swiftly as a shadow in the sun.

We plan for “someday”—the trip, the call, the forgiveness we will offer later—yet Jesus reminds us:

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’” (Luke 12:20 NIV)

Even the densest cloud drifts away, even the brightest shadow fades. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

The Gift of New Birth

When we truly see the fragility of life, our hearts are drawn to something eternal.

“Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” (John 3:3 NIV)

Being born again is not about fixing the old. It is about stepping into something entirely new, gentle and full of hope.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)

God gives us a new heart, a new spirit, and the chance to walk each day with love and purpose. Through Christ, we pass from death to life.

“We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.” (1 John 3:14 NIV)

For all of us who have stumbled—parents who have faltered, siblings who have spoken too sharply, friends who have misunderstood, or even strangers we have failed to love well—remember this: no heart is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Every misstep, every regret, can be met with mercy. A heart surrendered to Him, willing to turn toward His light, can transform not only the moments we live now but the story of the days yet to come. Our children, our homes, our friendships, even the lives of those we have just met, can be touched by this quiet, renewing love.

This new life invites us to treasure the simple, fleeting moments. We linger a little longer in a hug at bedtime, offer a smile more freely across the table, and notice the gentle thoughtfulness in the eyes of those around us. We speak love fully, but softly; we forgive quickly and without pride; and we step into each day with a quiet courage, trusting that in every stumble, in every falter, God’s grace is there to meet us, to heal, and to guide us forward.

With each new morning, we find the courage to put one foot gently in front of the other, following the path Jesus has made for us, with His Light shining steadily before us and His Lamp illuminating every step. Even when the way is uncertain, even when we falter or lose our footing, we move forward with trust, knowing we are never walking alone. Each careful step becomes a quiet act of faith, a humble offering of our hearts, and a testament to the tender, patient love that carries us through the long days and the fleeting moments alike.

And in that trust, in that gentle, steady following, we discover a new rhythm for our lives—a rhythm of grace, of hope, and of courage—that allows us to love more deeply, forgive more freely, and cherish the precious, fleeting gift of each day.

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” (Romans 6:4 NIV)

Today, Not Someday

Today. Not someday. We do not have to wait for tragedy or loss to awaken us to life’s fragile beauty. Every sunrise is a gift, spilling light across the quiet corners of our homes and hearts. Every small act of love—a whispered word, a gentle touch, a smile offered without hesitation—is a chance to live fully, to step into the life God has placed before us.

As the Scripture reminds us, “Now is the time of God’s favor; now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2 NIV). How gently these words invite us to stop waiting, to stop postponing the love we long to give and receive. And again, in Hebrews, we hear the call: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15 NIV). Today—this very moment—is enough. Today is enough.

Reach out, forgive, love. Step bravely into the dreams God has placed quietly in your heart. Treasure the laughter of your children, the smallness of their hands, the fleeting, tender moments that slip away so quickly. Life is vapor, delicate and brief, yet within each breath is the chance to live fully in love, to scatter seeds of grace, to leave gentle footprints on the hearts of those around us.

Do not wait. Do not wait for a wake-up call that may never come. Let today be the day we soften our hearts, offer kindness without reserve, and pour love into the ordinary, fleeting moments that together make up the fullness of life. For in this fragile, fleeting life, every heartbeat, every smile, every quiet act of love is a chance to live as God intended—completely, tenderly, and now.

The Urgent Call

Life is vapor, and the world we know is fading. Jesus said:

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35 NIV)

Each day brings us closer to the End of Days, when the Lord will return to bring justice and set all things right.

This is a loving, urgent call to hearts everywhere: turn to Jesus. He offers new birth, eternal life, and hope. Turn from sin. Receive His forgiveness. Let Him heal the mistakes of the past. Let Him guide your heart, your home, and your future. Every fleeting moment is a gift from Him—do not waste it.

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15–16 NIV)

Your life is a vapor, but in Christ, your soul can live forever. The moment is now. Hold it close. Love deeply. Walk gently. Follow Jesus with your whole heart. Don’t let it pass.

My Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of this life, fragile yet full of Your love. Thank You for calling us to new birth, for redeeming our past mistakes, and for filling our hearts with hope and purpose. Help us to see each moment as precious, to forgive freely, to love without hesitation, and to live with eternity in view. Draw us close to You, guide our steps, and teach our children to know Your love. Amen.

By Grace ~ DLM

Jesus is first in my life, and because of Him, my life in this world is bearable. I want every day to bring Him glory, and I watch and pray for His return. I love sharing the Kingdom of God with anyone who will listen (Matthew 28:19–20), because time is short and Jesus will call His people home before the coming Tribulation (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; 1 Corinthians 15:51–52; Revelation 3:10). I cherish God’s creation—people, animals, birds, trees (I’m a tree hugger!), flowers (roses are my favorite), snow, rain, wind, and sunshine (Genesis 1:31; Psalm 19:1). Scripture reminds us that the earth will one day be renewed (2 Peter 3:10–13; Revelation 21:1), so I strive to care for it until He calls us to meet Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17). I’m grateful to live in a country with freedom of speech and faith, and I seek God’s wisdom in everything I share.
