A Person is a Person, No Matter How Small

The ache in my heart folds me over in anguish when I think of the smallest, most defenseless among us, the unborn, whose lives are silenced before they have barely begun. Tiny hands, trembling hearts, futures stolen before they can breathe, before they can grow, before they can know love. Every heartbeat ended, every soul unseen.

I am overwhelmed by the vulnerability of this life, utterly dependent, yet treated as if it is nothing. This is not political. This is moral. It is a wound in the human soul. Scripture tells us, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and For thou hast possessed my reins, thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb Genesis 1:5 Each child is a masterpiece of the Creator, known and cherished even before birth.

And yet, how easily life is dismissed. How often innocence is destroyed while the world debates, argues, and turns away. The smallest, most defenseless cannot defend themselves, and still they are crushed. Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward Psalm 127:3 Thou shalt not kill Exodus 20:13 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute Proverbs 31:8-9.

I weep for them. I mourn for them. My heart cannot soften this grief. I ache for the souls whose lives are stolen before they can ever live, whose futures are extinguished before a single word or laugh can be heard. God sees, God knows, God remembers.

I have written about this heartache many times, yet my grief and urgency have not diminished. The killing of the innocent remains a wound that cries out to Heaven, and I fear that as a nation we have fallen out of Grace with our Heavenly Father. When a people turn from God’s ways and trample the life He holds sacred, the consequences are not delayed forever. Scripture warns us, Woe to them that call evil good, and good evil, that put darkness for light, and light for darkness, that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter Isaiah 5:20 God’s Word does not speak in half measures; rebellion against Him carries weighty judgment.

When a nation forsakes righteousness, the Lord raises His hand. If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land 2 Chronicles 7:14 But when hearts remain unrepentant, when evil is embraced instead of resisted, the consequences can be devastating. The shedding of innocent blood is not just a crime against children; it is a defiance of God Himself, and Scripture reminds us, Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people Proverbs 14:34.

Even as my heart breaks over the lives stolen before they can breathe, I hold to the hope that God receives each child who dies. Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these Matthew 19:14. David, grieving the death of his own child, said, I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me 2 Samuel 12:23. These Scriptures remind us that the smallest and most defenseless are safe in the loving arms of Jesus. While our grief is deep and our anguish real, we can take comfort in knowing that God holds these precious lives and that His mercy and justice reach even to the youngest souls.

Yet even in this sorrow, there is hope. The same God who values life at its earliest breath forgives, restores, and redeems. The same God who calls us to mercy also calls us to speak, to act, and to protect the vulnerable. He who receives a little child in my name receives me, and the Lord declares, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these Matthew 19:14.

As Christians, we are called to see, to mourn, and to act. Where is the alarm over the destruction of these little lives? Where is the outrage that compels us to speak, to defend, to guide others to God? God hates the shedding of innocent blood Proverbs 6:16-17 He calls us to rebuke wrong, to point people to His ways, not to judge, but to shepherd them toward life.

No life is too small to matter. Every child is a person, a soul, a life formed by God Himself. To ignore this, to soften it, to dismiss it, is to harden our hearts. Yet even in the sorrow, even in the grief, hope remains. Mercy triumphs, redemption is possible, and God’s love reaches into every hidden place where life begins.

Prayer

Lord, have mercy on the smallest and most defenseless among us. Protect them, cover them, and let Your justice and mercy prevail. Soften our hearts, awaken our courage, and guide us to defend the lives You hold sacred. In Jesus’s Name we pray. Amen

By Grace

Jesus is first in my life, and through Him, life in this world is bearable. I desire each day to bring Him glory as I watch and pray for His return. I share the Kingdom of God with those willing to hear, as commanded in Matthew 28:19–20, knowing time is short and that Jesus will call His people home before the coming Tribulation, as written in 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17, 1 Corinthians 15:51–52, and Revelation 3:10. I cherish God’s creation—people, animals, birds, trees, flowers, and every season of weather, as seen in Genesis 1:31 and Psalm 19:1. Scripture reminds us the earth will one day be renewed, according to 2 Peter 3:10–13 and Revelation 21:1, so I seek to care for it faithfully until He calls us to meet Him in the air, as promised in 1 Thessalonians 4:17. I am grateful to live in a country with freedom of speech and faith, and I seek God’s wisdom in all I share.
