Turn From the Darkness!

Seeing Through the Darkness: Spiritual Deception Today

Don’t be deceived!

I’m using King James Version for the scriptures in this blog.

John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

This world we live in is becoming darker with each passing day as more and more people turn from their belief that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for our sins and He rose from the grave on the 3rd day. We can only watch as this darkness envelopes the whole earth.

Many things today are disguised as harmless, normal, or even “good,” but in reality, they draw people away from God’s truth. The deception is drawing even the elect from the belief in God and His Son, Jesus-Yeshua HaMashiach. Spiritual decay is encompassing this earth and the people are blinded by their own lusts.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

New Age practices and occult influences

Deception: Seen as harmless fun, “energy,” or self-care. Truth: God forbids consulting spirits or seeking power outside of Him.

These things often appear harmless, trendy, or even “spiritual,” but they substitute man-made beliefs or occult power for God’s truth. We live in a culture where horoscopes, crystals, and “manifesting your dreams” are considered normal, even fun. People are told they can tap into “the universe” for wisdom and strength, but what they don’t realize is that they are opening doors to deception and spiritual bondage. The Bible is very clear: practices like astrology, divination, spirit guides, and contacting the dead are not harmless hobbies! They are abominations in God’s eyes. When we seek help outside of the Lord, we are saying He is not enough for us.

Examples: Astrology and horoscopes, crystals or stones for healing, spirit guides, energy healing (Reiki, chakra balancing), tarot cards, fortune-telling, Ouija boards, séances, witchcraft, spells, burning sage to “cleanse spirits.”

Deuteronomy 18:10–12 “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord…”

Entertainment that glorifies sin

Deception: “It’s just a show/song/game, it doesn’t affect me.” Truth: What we fill our minds with shapes our hearts.

Entertainment has become one of the greatest teachers of our time. Movies, television, music, and video games are shaping how people think, believe, and behave, yet many shrug it off as harmless. The danger is that repeated exposure to sin desensitizes us. What once would have shocked us is now normal, even funny. Scripture warns us not to set wicked things before our eyes. If we allow our minds and hearts to feast on violence, immorality, or mockery of God, those things will eventually take root in us.

Examples: Movies/TV shows glamorizing adultery, witchcraft, or violence; music promoting drugs, lust, or rebellion; video games built on gore or occult powers; comedy and media mocking holiness; fashion and advertising that normalize immorality.

Psalm 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

As we navigate a world filled with subtle deception and distractions, it is vital to keep our eyes on Jesus-Yeshua HaMaschiach, the Light of the world. When we allow His truth to guide us, we begin to recognize what is harmful and what is of God. Let us remain vigilant, discerning the spiritual traps that surround us, and choose to walk in His light daily rather than being drawn into darkness.

Reflective question for readers: Are there areas in your life or media choices where darkness is influencing your thoughts or actions, and how can you invite God’s light in instead?

Jesus is first in my life, and as a result, my existence in this world is bearable; I want nothing less than every day of my life to bring Him glory. I'm continuously watching and praying for Him to come again. “I desire to share the Kingdom of God with anyone who will listen (Matthew 28:19–20), because time is short and Jesus will call His people home before the coming Tribulation (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; 1 Corinthians 15:51–52; Revelation 3:10). I cherish the beauty of the world He created for us (Genesis 1:31; Psalm 19:1), and though Scripture tells us that this present earth will one day pass away and be renewed (2 Peter 3:10–13; Revelation 21:1), I want to honor His creation and care for it well until He calls us to meet Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17).” I love people, animals, birds, trees (I'm a tree hugger), flowers (roses are my favorite), the snow, the rain, the wind, and the sunshine. I realize how blessed I am to live now and be born in a country that allows freedom of speech and religion! Free to share my thoughts and illumination. I also realize that there are consequences to everything I share with you, so I'll always ask God's wisdom while writing and before I publish. ALL questions are welcome! I can't promise I'll be able to give you the answer you want, but I'll answer honestly and with scriptures from the Bible. I use many different Bible translations as my resources. The NIV, NKJV, the KJV, and the HCSB are a few.
